Peri-Peri Guys | Our Story
A sauce born from centuries of tradition
Peri-Peri Guys isn't just a chicken spot — it's the result of a centuries-old culinary journey, an unlikely friendship, and a stubborn refusal to settle for anything less than the world's best peri-peri sauce.
The sauce has a 500-year history
The African Bird's Eye chili traveled from Mozambique to Portuguese kitchens in the 15th century, spreading through South Africa and Europe. That journey lives in every bottle of Peri-Peri Guys sauce.
How it started
Hafeez Raja moved from Glasgow to New York and couldn't find peri-peri up to his standards, so he started shipping ingredients from the UK. A pick-up soccer game introduced him to Greg Raposo — a New York native of Portuguese descent — and their partnership launched in 2020.
The 24-hour commitment
Every bird is organic, steroid-free, and Zabiha Halal — marinated over 24 hours before it ever sees the flame. That standard was set on day one and hasn't moved since.
Long Island took notice
The Hicksville location earned a spot on Newsday's Top 100 Restaurants list, and in 2022, State Senator Kevin Thomas presented the founder with the New York State Empire Award. From Hicksville to Selden, the peri-peri fanbase on Long Island keeps growing.
